Ice Report
Ice conditions remain great in front of Trapper’s Landing Lodge. There is no restriction on vehicle size or travel on our end of the lake. We have 4-6 inches of snow out on the lake with some deeper drifts that you will want to look out for as you travel off-road.
Fishing Report
Walleye fishing remains streaky on the lake. The best success for anglers this weekend was out on the deeper edges of a break line or a deep rock reef in 22-30 ft of water. Rogers Point, Big Rock Reef, Huddles Reef and out off of Mokey Reef are the best areas during the lowlight and evening hours. Jigging during the twilight hours with smaller 1/16 oz jigging spoons tipped with a minnow head work the best, while having a shiner on setline in a rattle wheel at night is catching fish as well.
Perch action remains spotty across the lake. The sunny days are the best days right now to catch fish shallow in 5-8 ft. Miller Bay, Sucker Bay, Campbell’s reef are all having reports of some jumbos being caught.
Crappie and Bluegill are being caught on some of the area smaller lakes in the basins. The deeper the basin the better the day-time bite. Small jigs tipped with larvae or your favorite plastics are the way to get some of these topside. Make sure you bring plenty of gas to drill out these areas.
Looking Ahead
The long-range forecast looks like we are in store for another warm up this weekend into next week. With no significant weather change looming it should mean an uptick in fishing success. The Merit will be open Thursday and Friday 4PM-9 PM for food and Saturday 11 AM-9 PM with bar service after 9 PM each night. As always we will have shiners/ fatheads/ euro larvae and waxies available for purchase at the main lodge. Good luck on all your outdoor adventures and we hope to see you on the ice.
