Getting away can mean different things at different times. Sometimes it means staying in a luxury dwelling with more amenities than home. It can also mean going to the Boundary Waters where motors and most cell signals can’t go. Sometimes getting away is somewhere in between.
Staying at the Merit Cabins at Trapper’s Landing is far from roughing it. Still, they are simple compared to the resort’s luxury lake homes and suites.
“They have the feel of the regular ma and pa cabins,” said Josh Bullivant of Trapper’s Landing. “Some like it because they are like the typical up-north cabin that their grandfather would have stayed in or they would have stayed in as kids.”
These cabins go back to a simpler time before smartphones or even Google. They are a popular choice for fishermen who just want a nice warm place to sleep before hitting the waters at dawn.
“They are the original cabins that were here when it was Merit Lodge,” said Josh. “So, technically you are staying in a historic place too. The original Merit Lodge was the second lodge ever built on the lake and these are remnants of the lodge. “
They are old but comfortable. The cabins have been remodeled and kept up throughout the years. Three of the cabins are on the water and three have great views of the water. They are all heated and have window air conditioners. They are stocked with what you need for your stay. Each cabin also has a fire pit, with wood supplied by the lodge.
The cabins are also the resort’s more affordable option. Maybe you are happier with simpler quarters and having more money to spend on other lake activities.
The Merit Cabins have access to the lake and lake activities the same as the luxury suites.
All guests at Trapper’s Landing have the same access to the marina, boating, fishing, children’s programs, and yard games. You’ll find bonfires in the evening, complete with free s’mores. After sitting by the fire you can also go to the lakeside sauna.
Merit cabins are a simpler alternative at Trapper’s Landing that give the same access to the environment and activities on Leech Lake. They are a comfortable way to get to relax while getting away.
