It looks like the weather has finally turned towards the cool. The ducks and geese are flying early in the mornings and the maples are starting to turn shades of Maroon and Gold, along with the NFL kickoff. This is a great time to start being a walleye fisherman again or fisherman in general. We just hosted a Walleye Federation tournament this past weekend and the winning weight was just shy of 19 lbs which is a great one day bag. The winning technique was shallow fishing, in less than 6 ft with Jigs/plastics and they switched to jigging raps as the day went on out deeper. The winning anglers had their bag in hand by 9 AM. Fishing the windy days and low light conditions right now are key. Look for rock humps and points in 3′ – 8′ of water and fish with jig/minnows or jig/plastics, pitching these areas. Keep those jigs moving. The other nice thing about this time of year is that the shore walleye fishing is picking up right off of our docks in front of the resort. Casting a Shad rap or slip bobber is key. We have had some nice fish being picked up right off our new fishing pier.
Musky anglers found some very big fish this past weekend during the Frank Schneider Memorial Muskie Tournament. Most anglers found their fish on sand flats adjacent to weeds, using a multitude of different techniques. It seems like the smaller bulldawgs and minnow style cranks worked best this past weekend from the anglers that stopped by. It should continue to be a great bite as the water cools and we head towards ice up.
Its a great time to be a fisherman on the lake, not a lot of fishing pressure, great fall colors and good fishing. We have some great specials right now and all the g.loomis rods you could use as our guests. We will even mark a few hot spots on a complimentary map for you when you stop bye. As always be safe on all your outdoor adventures and we hope to see you on the lake.
