LEECH LAKE ICE REPORT FROM TRAPPER’S LANDING LODGE
The warm weather and rain did us some good this past weekend with the snowpack on the lake, and it was followed by some great cold weather have made the slush and ice conditions good on this end of Leech Lake. Due to that we will be open this weekend for wheelhouse traffic and we do have some cutouts made on our end of the lake which will be on a first-come basis. Still use caution when traveling off-road as there is still some slushy areas around the lake. The ice thickness is 18-25” consistently around our road.
We will have no limitations on vehicle size or wheelhouse sizes for the weekend, all traffic must go 5 mph while pulling out onto the lake.
NO DRILLING HOLES on the road and they still need to be a good distance off the main roads.
LEECH LAKE FISHING REPORT
Walleye Fishing on Leech Lake was slow this past weekend and the guests that are catching fish are in 14-20 ft of water on any breakline or midlake hump. Set lines with a minnow under a bobber are catching the most fish. For anglers chasing fish during the day jigging raps are the ticket and ice trolling. Drilling holes and fishing aggressive this time of year will put more fish topside.
The Merit will be open Thursday – Sunday this weekend, if you plan on coming up Presidents Day Weekend, be sure to call ahead and get reservations for our Valentines Day Dinner Special. Give us a call at 218-836-2500 for any questions or to make your reservation. We hope to see you on the ice!
