Trapper’s Landing Lodge Fishing Report 5.7.20
We have had open water out on the Main Basin of Leech Lake since April 28th which is a full week earlier than last season and water temps are sitting in the upper 40s to low 50s. Which should mean a great opener even with the cooler weather coming at us this weekend. You should be able to have good fishing with the Northwest winds on Diamond Point, the Trappers Landing Lodge Point and Bear Island Area. Jigs and minnows, jigs and plastics will be the go-to for most anglers over opening day, and if you are looking for some alternative fishing options, grab a few husky Jerks and cast the shallows during the lowlight times.
Crappie action has started to pick up around the lake in the shallow harbors and bays across the lake. The afternoons tend to be better than the mornings. Crappie minnows and your favorite jig under a slip bobber is catching most of the fish. You will even find a few Perch in these areas as well.
We will have bait available down in our marina this weekend. We will also be practicing social distancing with all of our staff and guests, so please be patient while we are getting bait and launching boats. The Merit will be opening May 21st but we will have snacks and drinks available up at the Lodge for purchase. We are looking forward to the open water season and we hope to see you on the lake.
